Plot

Bad Buddy is a 2021 Thai Bl romantic-comedy series based on the novel 'Behind The Scenes' by Afterday West, a Thai Author.

Like most Thai BL series characters, Bad Buddy stars "Pran", a neat and tidy architecture student portrayed by Thai actor Korapat Kirdpan (Nanon), and "Pat", a cheeky and impulsive engineering student portrayed by Pawat Chittsawangdee (Ohm). It tells the story of these two boys who come from warring, neighbouring families and find themselves in competition for almost everything, but somehow develop romantic feelings for each other along the road.

Even before birth, they were meant to be enemies. Their family runs a hardware business side by side, and their parents hate one another to the core. At the age of 12 when Pran saves Pat's sister Pa (played by Pattranite Limpatiyakorn) from drowning, the boys' hatred for one another begins to dissolve and their relationship changed since then.

In front of others, they appear to be enemies but they do not detest each other with as much hatred as it appears. Fast forward two years later after Pran is sent away to boarding school, both boys reunite at the university when Pran's friend Wai (played by Jimmy Jitaraphol Potiwihok), gets into a fight with the guys in the Engineering faculty.

When Pran and Pat Reunited 2 Years Later

This day sparks a series of unending fights between both faculties and the unanimous hatred between the students of each faculty stops both boys from acknowledging that they know each other. Pat is chosen to be the freshman class president of the Faculty of Engineering while Pran is the class president of the Faculty of Architecture, which complicates things even further.

They have to now cooperate to keep their friends from running into each other cause their next fight will get them in trouble with university authorities. Which is harder to achieve, them keeping their friends from fighting or keeping their secret romance.....a secret.

Review

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

In the beginning, I expected another cliche and not properly thought-out university drama. Been overdone now, but I carried on. While reading this review of Bad Buddy 2021, keep in mind that I started watching this movie expecting it to have a lot of NC scenes (No Children scenes). I first started watching BL series because they always deliver such types of scenes with great acting and emotions but this time around, I stayed for the plot.

Bad Buddy was a generally great series, the actors did a good job in bringing the characters to life.
It has the power to make you burst into laughter, shed a few tears, and even feel like dancing around the room. But beyond the entertainment, it delivers a valuable lesson on the importance of communication in relationships.

For all the hopeless romantics, this series is an absolute treat, delivering a heartwarming experience.

Pat and Pran's journey in the series is a relatable one. As they grapple with the challenges of being together while their parents and friends fight, their story unfolds gradually, devoid of unnecessary melodrama. This approach draws you into their narrative, making you feel the same emotions of anticipation, tension, and connection that Pat and Pran experience throughout their journey.

Firstly, the acting is truly commendable, with the cast delivering impressive performances. What sets it apart is how genuine the reactions and physical interactions feel; there's a naturalness to their chemistry that never comes across as awkward or forced. The relationship depicted in the series steers clear of toxic dynamics. Instead, it keeps you engaged and wanting more.

Pat brought sugar and fun to Pran's uptight character. Pat was the comedian of the duo. And I think they had one of the most beautiful kiss scenes I've seen in a Bl series(Pat and Pran's first kiss)

If you're like me who starts certain BL series with NC expectations, perish that thought because, on a scale of 5, this series is at 0.5 with the steamy content but is 4 out of 5 stars in general. This is a 4 because while it's an overall great performance, I refused to see the hype behind this Bl series and in my books, I've watched better like Kinnporshe, and The Eclipse.

Maybe my opinion is biased because these series that I consider better than Bad Buddy are more recent and the industry has progressed.

Also, I still found bits of this series cringe, and the plot is not very new. It is still another university BL drama but was just executed better.

All in all, I do recommend it.
